Joint Syria raid killed ISIS oil official who financed sleeper cells | Stars and Stripes

Known under the pseudonym Abu al-Ward al-Iraqi, the top Islamic State oil official who facilitated funding for sleeper cells was killed on January 14th in the Deir al-Zour province . Another militant official was also killed, but his identity has yet to be released. U.S. Army Col. Myles B. Caggins III has commented on the win this gives U.S. and Syrian forces, as the terrorist’s death will result in financial difficulty for ISIS groups near the Middle Euphrates River Valley. The takedown of this official comes less than three months after the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi during a raid on a compound.
