Police deputy superintendent Davinder Singh and two other militants were arrested after being chased down in a car in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Rebels in the area have been demanding independence or a merger with Pakistan for decades. A top commander of the biggest rebel group in Kashmir was also arrested, a police officer who deserted police ranks in 2017 and stole weapons. “Given the circumstances, this is a heinous crime,” commented Inspector General Vijay Kumar. He also said that intelligence agencies and the police were doing a joint investigation and interrogation into the arrests.
