Al Qaeda affiliate al-Shabaab carried out an attack on Manda Airstrip near the Camp Simba U.S. base in Lamu county. U.S. Africa Command and Kenya Defense forces fought off the assault, but a U.S. service member and two civilian contractors were killed, along with two DoD workers being injured. Two fixed-wing aircraft were seen being repaired, with helicopters and ground vehicles having been destroyed.
