Army Green Berets earn over 50 combat awards including three Silver Stars in Afghanistan | Stars and Stripes

In a ceremony that highlighted the bravery and dedication that members of 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) showed in a recent deployment to Afghanistan, dozens of Green Berets received valor awards. These awards included three Silver Star medals, as well as seven Bronze Stars for valor and 17 Army Commendation medals. Col. Steven M. Marks, deputy commander of 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne), presented the medals, and stated, “this is a reminder that even in the modern age, warfare is still about courage under fire.” According to a 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) spokesman, the unit’s soldiers earned 21 Purple Hears during the combat zone deployment that took place in late 2018.
