U.S. suspends training Iraqi troops to focus on base security in wake of Soleimani killing | Military Times

According to the U.S.-led coalition combating ISIS in Iraq and Syria, as threats to coalition troops at Iraqi bases continue, the U.S. has paused the training of Iraqi troops. Operation Inherent Resolve said that following the rocket attack on the Balad Air Base and the fire attack in Baghdad, there have been 13 attacks against bases that house American forces. OIR is committed to protecting Iraqi bases that host Coalition troops, even if it means limiting their capacity on supporting partners with operations against Daesh. This decision is subject to continuous review. The NATO Iraqi training has also been suspended. According to a source on the Kirkuk base, the base is bracing for another attack by the Iran-backed militia. OIR on sunday said, “we remain ready to return our full attention and efforts back to our shared goal of ensuring the lasting defeat of Daesh.”
