“People overestimate what will happen in a year and underestimate what will happen in a decade,” says Fred Wilson, attributing the quote to Bill Gates, as he looks forward to the decade that is upon us. Offering 10 predictions of what we could expect from the 20’s, he says, “It is impossible to be right about all of this. But it is important to be thinking about.” The first prediction is that countries and institutions will re-allocate capital to fight against global warming. In effect, real estate values in regions that are most affected will collapse, while real estate values in regions that “benefit” from the warming climate will increase. Another prediction is that China will have global dominance because of their quick ability to adapt to changing priorities (ref. previous prediction). Wilson says that, conversely, the U.S. will be more internally focused, becoming more isolationist in its world view.
