Connie Loizos has compiled a list of some of the most prominent startups from this past year, and how they impacted society. Number one on the list is based out of Durham, NC and is known as Xilis. Placing them at the number one spot comes from the medical technology being developed that enables cancer cure methods to be tested on a biopsy sample rather than on the patient, enabling the doctors to find which methods work best for each patient quicker and easier. Another notable company is Medinas, a marketplace for used medical equipment, making it easier for smaller facilities to find and purchase affordable equipment they might not otherwise have been able to acquire.
