Recent events have been unveiling the effectiveness of Afghan troops in their country and their readiness without U.S. troops. Over 72,000 Afghan forces were deployed on Election Day in September to patrol voting stations and fend off any terrorist animosity, enabling citizens to vote without fear of repercussions. President Ashraf Ghani has implemented numerous positive reforms, such as retiring those who were retired jihadi leaders that had become army generals. As a result, his forces have been able to slowly retake land from Taliban militants.
