Wife kept husband’s corpse in freezer for 10 years while collecting his VA benefits | Military Times

When a landlord had not heard from a 75-year-old Jeanne Souron-Mathers in several weeks, he called the police. After entering the apartment to find a deceased Mathers, the police made a shocking discovery in her freezer. Fully intact and frozen for ten years was her deceased husband, military veteran Paul Edward Mathers. It was then discovered that the wife had continued to receive his VA benefits, totaling over $157,000. A note written by the husband was also found, stating his wife was not responsible for his death, as he was terminally ill.
