Congress has challenged the Pentagon to come up with a plan to phase out burn pits within the next year. A list of sites where troops would have been exposed to the burn pits was requested. Continuing health examinations will be allowed for troops that were exposed to the burning waste, allowing exposed veterans to enroll in the VA’s Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry. House representatives have been commenting on the progress this provision details, enabling affected veterans to receive better healthcare and preventing current soldiers from being exposed to unnecessary toxic hazards.
