Each year the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) puts on Menton Week in honor of the disbandment of the joint American-Canadian First Special Service Forces during World War II. The unit was created to work behind enemy lines in harsh weather and difficult terrain. Both Canada and the U.S. can trace their special force’s heritage to the FSSF, commonly known as the Devil’s Brigade. The commander of the SFG (A) commented on how the week should also be used to remember those who lost their lives creating the special forces we know today.
