72 women and 37 men qualified for the Olympic trials at the California International Marathon last week. Outside spoke to runners who just barely squeezed by with a qualifying time. One runner, Jenny Donnelly, finished with a time of 2:44:36 and went into the marathon knowing she needed to shave 15 minutes off her personal record to qualify. Another runner used the thought “just like swimming” to convince herself to keep going at a qualifying pace. Zachary Vaslow started over with running at age 32 and ran his qualifying time this year at 35 years old.
