Taiwan invites US military observers to computer war games during annual Han Kuang exercises | South China Morning Post

In an effort to assess the ‘self-ruled’ island’s ability to defend themselves from mainland China, Taiwan invited US officers to observe their computer-simulated part of its annual Han Kuang military exercises in April 2020. This has happened before, but US presence was not publicly acknowledged. According to a Taiwanese military source, representatives from special forces, the Pentagon and Indo-Pacific Command will be asked to attend, as well as specialists in underseas mines, unmanned aviation and other related warfare. To help assess the island’s war tactics and operations, this formal invitation comes right after the defence ministry announced that it had budgeted funds for US military personnel to attend the annual exercise.
