Russia’s only aircraft carrier catching fire in the country’s Artic Sea port of Murmansk, has left one person dead, ten injured and two missing. The fire broke out during repair work as welders were working during maintenance. The ski-jump type aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, is Russia’s only aircraft carrier and the Navy’s largest warship. It’s first combat deployment being in 2016 to Syria, the ship has had issues ever since it returned. During repair work last October, a crane fell on it, ‘gouging’ a hole in the deck. PD-50, one of the world’s largest floating dry docks and the biggest in Russia, became submerged after a power supply disruption caused the pumps on the dock to break down. That was when the cranes fell on the deck, leaving a hole that measured 13 feet by 16.4 feet. The repairs were supposed to be completed by 2021.
