“1917” is being called one of the most impressive and best war films ever produced. The director, Sam Mendes, used the autobiography of his grandfather as inspiration for the writing. “1917” is based on the faked German retreat from the Hindenburg Line while the British troops are unknowingly advancing into an ambush. Aerial intelligence was able to realize the ruse, but when communications are knocked out lance corporals have to trek through the Western Front to deliver the information. The co-writer said that the film creates a world that is easily relatable for those with military service.
