THOR3: The Army’s answers to human optimization | Military.com

The Tactical Human Optimization Rapid Rehabilitation and Reconditioning, or THOR3, was created by the Army Special Operations Command. It is designed to improve the lives of soldiers when their bodies are worn down from extreme physical training and requirements. A soldier’s cycle in the army is to prepare for deployment, deploy, return home, and repeat. All of these cycle stages include physical training and events that can be harmful to the human body. THOR3 is a tactical fitness program designed to help these soldiers recover from injuries and help with pain management.

Fully accepting this program 10 years after its creation, the Defense Department has hired physical therapists, nutritionists, professional trainers and cognitive enhancement specialists. To perform optimally in any given situation, the Army Special Operations Forces requires training that benefits an operator holistically: physical training, emotional well-being, injury prevention and mental skills improvement. In the event that an operator is burned-out, over-stressed or injured, THOR3 helps the operator deal with the stress, to overcome the challenge and to ultimately improve their personal and operational longevity.
