Officials of the Operation Inherent Resolve have announced that the death of a Marine Raider, Gunnery Sgt. Scott A. Koppenhafer, was due to enemy fire. Following his death on August 10th while conducting combat operations in near Iraq, the Pentagon claimed his death was the result of enemy fire. Soon after though, they reversed their statement saying Koppenhafer was killed “after suffering fatal wounds while supporting Iraqi Security Forces.” An investigation was also launched to review if he was hit by enemy or friendly fire. The results have revealed that Koppenhafer’s death was due to enemy actions.
