Company claims breakthrough in concentrating the sun’s rays | ars Technica

Solar thermal is an alternate solar power that is harnessed by using mirrors to focus the sun’s rays onto a specific spot to reach a higher temperature. The heat created can be used as a source for energy, and it is easily stored so operations can be done during the night. Heliogen, a startup company, is releasing a new kind of technology, claiming it can increase the concentration point and reach higher temperatures. The startup has been backed by big-name investors, such as Bill Gates, and says their tech has broken the previous 1,000 degrees Celsius record. The primary focus of the company is to use this new discovery to help in the creation process of steel, cement, and hydrogen, as well as reduce the need for fossil fuels for heating purposes.
