Chief Master Sgt Chris Grove was presented with a Silver Star for his actions in a 2007 fire-fight in Afghanistan. A close-range firefight broke out while on a patrol with a special forces team. Grove exposed himself to rapid gun fire in order to find an observation point, so he could call controlled airstrikes from F-15 Strike Eagles. Grove and the other troops had suddenly come under fire from the Taliban, including machine gun and mortar fire. Grove and his men were able to retrieve a fallen team member. In the end, no one was left behind. In his acceptance speech Grove thanked and recognized the airmen who do the daily haul and make all the difference.
