Ross Perot and his imprisoned American employees reinforced the idea that American businesses were getting things done when the government couldn’t. In 1974, Perot and his company Electronic Data Systems obtained a contract to computerize Iran’s government records. However, people were protesting the Shah’s harsh rule and began to view the U.S. as a co-conspirator in their misery. When negotiations regarding money and the timetable for the contract fell through, two American employees were arrested in Iran and interrogated about Electronic Data Systems. After failing to get the State department involved, Perot hired an SOF Colonel and a group of veterans to hatch a rescue mission for his two men.
