Boeing awarded $22 million Laser Small Diameter Bomb contract | The Defense Post

Boeing has signed a contract for 22 million dollars to provide the Department of Defense with 522 Laser Small Diameter Bomb all up rounds and 131 warhead shipping containers. The U.S. Special Operations Detachment is said to be using them. These GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb are a precision-guided glide bomb designed to be lighter and more accurate. Aircrafts will often carry four GBU-39 instead of a 2,000-pound bomb. An average of 10,000 of these bombs have been used in combat, including an attack on Taliban drug factories in Afghanistan in 2017.
