Hollywood films rarely paint an accurate picture of military life and are often adjusted to suit the modern market. “Last Out: Elegy of a Green Beret” has opened in Fayetteville at Fort Bragg, portraying a truthful story and giving a vivid imagine of what these soldiers truly go through. Scott Mann, who wrote the play and portrays the main character, commented “you never hear about the men and women who are last out — the ones who go back day after day, week after week, month after month, like so many of our warriors at Bragg who have 10, 12, 14 deployments.” His goal was to put together the stories of numerous veterans and active duty soldiers in order to give an accurate display of what their lives are truly like.
