Canines are becoming more prevalent in the military and law enforcement agencies throughout India. These highly skilled dogs are used search for drugs and explosives, locate evidence, search for missing people, and accompany special forces troops on missions. While German Shepherds and Labradors were original choice, the CRPF has recently been focusing on the Belgian Shepherd. This new canine has a more rugged body type and can walk or run for a much longer distance than the other breeds. Military operations can require troops to walk for miles on end, making the Belgian Shepherd the prime candidate for missions. German Shepherds and Labradors are still being utilized however, in a field where long-distance walks aren’t required.
