A statement released in August by the Pentagon states that the US Army is too reliant on bottled water. One base in Iraq reportedly goes through more than 864,000 bottles of water a month. In arid environments, currently soldiers rely strongly on bottled water as their main source of hydration. This conflicts with recent efforts to reduce plastic consumption in order to curb climate change. New technologies need to be implemented and explored in order to avoid the consequences brought on by extreme bottled water use.
