Air Force Releases Light-Attack RFP for Small Numbers of AT-6s, A-29s | Air Force Magazine

Plans to order a small number of AT-6 and A-29 aircraft to split between the Air Combat Command and Air Force Special Operations Command were set in motion on October 24th. The Air Force aims to issue contracts to Textron Aviation, one by the end of this year for the A-29s, and one in early 2020 for the AT-6s. The AT-6 aircraft will be part of testing and development of tactical networks that will improve interoperability. The A-29 aircraft will be used by AFSOC to create an instructor pilot program to advise foreign nations on air warfare. The focus of the initiative is to help allies and partners “as they confront violent extremism and conduct operations within their borders.”
