With a well publicized trial behind him, a recent ruling will not allow Special Warfare Operator Chief Edward Gallagher to retire as a Chief, however, he will be allowed to retired as a petty officer first class. Convicted of posing for a photo with a dead enemy combatant, Gallagher was cleared of charges including premeditated murder and obstruction of justice among other charges. The estimated value of his pension is $1.5 million vs. the $654,000 he would have earned had his demotion to an E-1 not changed.
