AvengerCon started four years ago and holds a high-level of importance in the eyes of the Department of Defense as cyber warfare becomes more of a reality. Capt. Skyler Onken expressed his desire for people to see hackers in the military as a norm and to remove false ideas about the role. While there are no set learning guidelines at the conference, many have reported that discussions with other cyber operators helps them to approach problems differently.  A recent conference saw the gathering of military “hackers”, providing team games like capture the flag as well as events where participants could try to pick locks. Topics covered included “post-quantum cryptography,” “common code patterns in exploit development” and “hacking in the industrial age.”
