The Fan Dance Race Series Is a Special Forces Endurance March From Hell | Inside Hook

After his near-death experience of being caught in an avalanche and swept over the edge of a cliff, Ken Jones organizes a wide range of brutal outdoor “Avalanche Endurance Events” that are inspired by challenges that British soldiers faced while trying out for Her Majesty’s Special Forces. The Fan Dance Race Series is an entry-level initiation event that starts in the Brecon Beacons National Park and ascends that highest mountain in South Wales. Participants can choose to have basic supplies or to carry a realistic load of 35 pounds while trekking the 24km land. One of the most difficult parts of the entire journey is Jacob’s Ladder, a stone staircase with a steep incline that leads to the summit of the mountain. Despite incredibly taxing physical and mental challenges, participants mimic the same camaraderie as soldiers and keep each other going. AEE is so intense that there are often injuries and people who collapse from exhaustion, but Jones assures those who participate that the greater the pain, the sweeter the memory of finishing.
