The indigenous people of the Central Highlands of Vietnam came to the US 30 years ago and began the process of learning English and assimilating to an entirely new culture. The Montagnard fought alongside US Green Berets during the Vietnam War and fought for their own recognition for a decade in their home country. Rong Nay, who used to command the Resistance Force of the people, is now the executive director of the Montagnard Human Rights Organization which fights for indigenous groups of Vietnam including their own. Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis introduced a resolution to recognize the Montagnard people and condemn human rights violations by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It is time to stop oppressing native peoples and realize their valuable contributions.
