While competency in fighting is always associated with discipline, and rightly so, Special Forces must also incorporate creative thinking and improvisation to carry out some of the most extreme operations. Most people think that discipline suppresses creativity, but quite the opposite is true; with the ability to perform basic tasks without flaw, there is more room to improve adaptability and efficiency. In essence, discipline teaches the “why” of each action while allowing the “how” to be ambiguous and every changing. In Special Forces, problems are also solved in teams who combine their intelligence and perspectives to arrive at an ideal resolution. Ultimately, clarity of purpose and a vague sense of an approach while practicing teamwork is the smartest way to work through problems.
