The decision was made without consulting U.S. allies or senior U.S. military leadership and threatens to affect future partnerships at precisely the time we need them most, given the war-weariness of the American public coupled with ever more sophisticated enemies determined to come after us.”

General Votel is a recently retired U.S. Army officer who has led some of the most prominent commands within DOD.  He commanded the 75th Ranger Regiment, the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and most recently Central Command (CENTCOM). He retired in 2019 after 39 years of service.
