The Army started testing methods of airdropping freeze-dried plasma onto the battlefield to help wounded soldiers. Plasma has the ability to clot blood, transport blood cells through the body, and distribute key proteins and enzymes. 40% of combat deaths are a result of hemorrhaging, and finding a way to get plasma to the battlefield could help save a much larger portion of those soldiers. The freeze-dried form is powder which allows the plasma to be stored at room temperature and dropped from large heights. This will be a first for the military and will save lives if it works.
