Norwegian defense company Kongsberg is offering a warship that can use commercial systems for less money and can be built into commercial yards in less time than traditional warships. Warship development is becoming increasingly expensive, but Kongsberg is pitching the Vanguard design as a way to save a 50% life-cycle cost reduction. The ship will be able to carry containers and equipment with enough versatility to allow soldiers to swap missions. Kongsberg has tested the Vanguard warship and received positive reactions. They believe the ship’s low price will “rock the market.”
