People living near green spaces are at lower risk of metabolic syndrome | Science Daily

A study by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health found that people who live in areas with more greenery have lower risk for metabolic syndrome, a set of conditions that can cause high blood sugar and obesity. Metabolic syndrome can easily lead to hypertension, heart attacks, diabetes, and strokes. The longitudinal study analyzed data from 6,000 middle-aged adults and found that those living in spaces surrounded by more nature were able to prevent metabolic disease more often. Living near greenery could encourage physical activity and decrease exposure to smog, leading to a healthier overall lifestyle.
