House members seek provision to transfer procurement authority for the Light-Attack Aircraft to Special Operations Command | Breaking Defense

The Light Attack Aircraft debate has been “inching along” since at least 2009, building a frustration over the Air Force’s decade-long dithering about whether to buy a light-attack aircraft for close air support.  Acting Air Force Secretary Matt Donovan’s surprise announcement in January that the service had reversed its plans to issue a request for proposal by December has only added to the frustration.

A handful of congressmen are now pushing hard for the House-Senate Conference Committee to include a provision that would transfer procurement authority for the Light-Attack Aircraft (LAA) to Special Operations Command if the Air Force does not proceed with a buy.
