Researchers find way to kill pathogen resistant to antibiotics | Science Daily

Researchers have just found a solution to deal with a dangerous bacterium that causes infections in people with weak immune systems and is resistant to antibiotic treatment. Chemists have found a way to hijack a certain protein that is able to get ahold of iron in the body. When pigment containing the protein is exposed to near-infrared light, a harmful oxygen species is generated and is able to kill the bacteria. This solution works around the ineffectiveness of antibiotics and could cure certain infections.
