The US military is ordering a “turbo activation” of 28 ships to ensure it can move heavy equipment in case of a major conflict. This will be the largest operation of its kind since Operation Iraqi Freedom and involves transitioning semi-dormant ships to fully operational in five days. During a conflict, the sealift fleet would have to carry 90% of the US Army and Marine Corps equipment; this test will determine if such preparations are possible.
