The Pentagon needs new ways to keep ahead of its military competitors, Russia and China. The head of technology, Mike Griffin, pointed out that the world is advancing in terms of weaponry, alliances, and military behavior. He stated that there is unlimited potential in researching and applying directed energy and lasers of even higher power than are available now. Griffin noted the importance of biotechnology and keeping unmanned systems in check to avoid harming civilians. A plan is in motion to work closely with industries to make laser warfare a reality.
