The Somali forces on Tuesday recaptured a key town 70 kilometers southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu, pushing back al-Qaeda affiliated group al-Shabaab.
Officials said that the Somali Special Forces known as Danab, backed by peace keeping forces belonging to African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) launched an operation, to march into Awdhegle town in Lower Shabelle region.
Lower Shabelle Governor Ibrahim Adan Najah told reporters that government forces have successfully captured Awdhegle town after a brief fight.
”Our Somali National Army have liberated Awdhegle town from al-Shabaab after brief clashes. There were no civilian casualties”, Najah said.
