Topeka native Dan Cnossen is heading to Los Angeles Wednesday to celebrate his athletic achievements including a gold medal win at the Paralymic Winter Games.
In March, Cnossen competed in the 2018 games in Pyeongchang where he received six medals including one gold, four silver and one bronze. He will be honored for these endeavors Wednesday as he attends the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards, where he is nominated in the Best Male Athlete with a Disability category.
The annual ESPY Awards recognize outstanding athletes in about 30 different sporting categories. This year’s show is hosted by professional racing driver Danica Patrick.
Cnossen is nominated for Nordic skiing in his category alongside three other contenders who were nominated for alpine skiing, sled hockey and snowboarding.
“I found out through email and was very excited, but not expecting that,” Cnossen said. “I’m normally uncomfortable at formal events especially with wearing a suit and having to walk in dress shoes. This is very hard to do with two knee prosthetic.”
