SOFIC 2018: EaglePicher looks to power SOF warriors | Shepard Media

One company exploring SOF applications for its underlying technologies and resulting product designs is EaglePicher Technologies. The company, which currently provides approximately 85% of the batteries used on guided munitions, is looking at those applications for its Conformal Wearable Battery (CWB).

“We absolutely dominate the thermal battery market for the military,” said Jonah Westcott, business development manager for defense at EaglePicher, adding that the last several years have not only seen the company receive one of two awards for the new military 5790 (SINCGARS) battery contract but also expand into the CWB arena with new hybrid Lithium Carbon Monofluoride (CFx) and LiCFx-MnO2 technology.

Westcott outlined a few trade offs between the new Hybrid CFx and perhaps better known Li-ion (Lithium Ion) designs, offering that, while not rechargeable like Li-Ion, Hybrid CFx is a lighter battery that features greater performance.
