A member of the UK armed forces in the U.S.-led coalition battling Islamic State was killed by an improvised explosive device in Syria, officials have confirmed.
The victim is the first casualty from UK Armed Forces in the war-ravaged country.
An American soldier was also killed and five other soldiers were injured by a blast.
They are the first coalition service members to be killed or wounded in an attack this year.
An MoD spokesman said the British casualty was embedded with US forces fighting ISIS – also called Daesh – when they were caught by an explosion on Thursday. The victim was thought to be from the SAS.
The spokesman gave no information regarding the victim’s service branch, unit or gender.
