Iraqi Prime Minister, Haidar al-Abadi ordered Special Forces on Wednesday (January 31) to take control of Najaf International Airport, after the provincial council opposed the new successors.
The Special Forces, escorted by head of Baghdad International Airport, Ali Jawad was sent to oust the airport’s current board of directors, a source told NRT Arabic.
“Negotiations are now under way to hand over the management of the airport immediately, to a new administration proposed by Abadi,” the source said.
Jawad has been appointed by Iraqi PM Haidar al-Abadi to take over the current administration of the airport, he added.
Najaf provincial council refused last month to hand over the airport to him.
The Najaf provincial council voted Wednesday to appoint an acting executive director of the city’s airport, instead of to Ali Jawad.
