The Department of Defense “Warrior Games” will take place in Tampa next year. The news was recently announced by U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D), who revealed that U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), will host the 2019 games at MacDill Air Force Base.
The Warrior Games, held annually, are a series of paralympic style events for wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans. According to a letter from DOD, the games are meant to “inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, demonstrate life beyond disability and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve our country.”
In 2015 the U.S. Marine Corp hosted the inaugural Warrior Games at their base in Quantico, VA. The Army hosted the 2016 games, the Navy hosted in 2017, and the Air Force will host this year’s games at the Air Force Academy in Colorado.
