A seedling from a Callery pear tree that survived the attack on Sept. 11 at the World Trade Center will be planted at the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum next week.
The dedication will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the museum at 3300 N. State Road A1A in Fort Pierce.
The pear tree has become known as the “Survivor Tree” because of its resilience in surviving the attack at the World Trade Center. In October 2001, the tree was discovered at Ground Zero severely damaged, with snapped roots and burned and broken branches. The tree was removed from the rubble and placed in the care of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
