US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has released a draft Request for Proposals (RfP) for the smallest form factor variant in its next-generation Satellite Deployable Node- Family of Systems (SDN-FoS) concept.

Published on 3rd May 2017, the draft document describes the requirement for an ‘SDN-Lite’ terminal for satellite communications (SATCOM) which will be no more than a single metre in diameter. Specific requirements are still being drawn up by USSOCOM ahead of an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract expected to be worth up to USD75 million.

The contract could see the command acquiring up to 809 SDN-Lite antennas over the course of the five-year contract, the document described. A final RfP is expected to be published in the final quarter of 2017.
