VA Secretary David Shulkin: Potential government shutdown poses ‘no risk’ to veterans | Washington Examiner

Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin said a government shutdown poses “no risk” to veterans.

Shulkin talked about how the shutdown threat could impact veterans in an interview with CBS.

“There’s a possibility of a government shutdown ahead — how might that affect the VA?” CBS’s Anthony Mason asked.

“The VA is in a fortunate situation in that we have what’s called an advanced appropriations so we get our money a year ahead of time because I think Congress understands that the VA can’t shut down, that we are there for the safety of our veterans,” Shulkin answered.
