These are the elite Taliban forces fighting for a province once held by U.S. troops | The Washington Post

Taliban special forces have joined the group’s recent offensive in southern Afghanistan, according to social media posts and news reports citing Afghan officials and military commanders.

The presence of Taliban special forces in the insurgent group’s push to seize Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital of their opium-rich birthplace: Helmand Province, comes as Afghan forces, buoyed by U.S. airstrikes, have struggled to keep the city from falling.
