On May 6 of this year, Seaman James Derek Lovelace – a SEAL student – died during a swimming drill.

The Navy initially portrayed the tragedy as an accident. This week, a San Diego medical examiner called it a homicide.

The question now is whether Lovelace’s Basic Underwater Demolition/SEALs training – BUD/S – was merely brutal or a case of brutality.
