Lt. Gen. Raymond “Tony” Thomas has been officially appointed to lead Special Operations Command, based at MacDill Air Force Base.

Once confirmed by Congress, Thomas will replace Army Gen. Joseph Votel, who is in line to replace Army Gen. Lloyd Austin at U.S. Central Command.

Thomas now leads Joint Special Operations Command, a part of Special Operations Command that manages detachments of the Army’s Delta Force, the Navy’s SEAL Team Six and other elite commandos around the globe.
